• Prime Gaming: 4 November 2023

From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Sat Nov 4 10:07:39 2023
What's this? I'm actually doing a "Prime Gaming" announcement on a
weekly basis? Well, the start of the month is usually when Amazon
releases their 'big name' games (with the filler Indie games trickling
out later in the month) so I tend to be a bit more alert.

So what do we get today?

    * Rage 2: Deluxe Edition (via Epic)
    Pssst. C'mere, I got something to tell you. No, closer;
    it's a bit of a secret and I don't want everyone to
know. Okay, here it is: I never actually played "Rage 2"
so I don't really have all that much of an opinion on the
game. Is it good? Bad? I really don't know. I can't
say that I was all that impressed with the original game
of the franchise, and what little I've seen about the
sequel didn't excite me... but how bad can it be,
really? It's an FPS developed by Id and Bethesda, and
while it may not be a classic, I doubt it's total
crap either. And it's free. So why not get it?

Although... you may already own it, since it was a freebie from Epic
back in February 2021. Still, if you missed it then, here's a second
chance to add it to your library.

Just the one game this week. We'll see what exciting new content
(Indie game filler) gets shuffled down the pipe in future
    announcements. ;-)

It's decent. It was free on Epic awhile ago, so most everyone
who's been around here got it previously. We've got some new
people here so they may have missed it then. Looking at my old
monthly report from 2021 on it, it's fairly buggy, the controls
aren't good, and the driving which is a lot of the game is bad,
and it feels like a haphazard mish-mash of mad-max, fallout,
and maybe bioshock. I still finished it and it wasn't excessively
long. Possibly worth a play for free *shrug*.

Can I ask how do you keep track of this stuff. Like the games you have
played, when you got them, have they been freebies before, which digital platforms, etc.

    Is quite amazing!

    He has a spreadsheet.

Maybe we should all have a spreadsheet.

    He has a spreadsheet.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Although, in truth, when it comes to checking the release date of Epic
titles, I usually rely on the "added to library" date in Playnite. [1]
It's slightly faster to check than opening Excel.

However, games older than two or three years I still need to check the spreadsheet. And even with that, there's only so far it goes back (I
think I only started keeping track of acquisition dates ten years
    ago).

Of course, for a lot of the OLDER games, I pretty much bought them on
or around release, so I can just check mobygames.com or wikipedia for
    when that happened. ;-)
