  • FREE GAMES: "Blazing Sails" and "QUBE"

    I have nothing clever to say this week. No snappy introduction or
    ChatGPt poetry. Epic is giving away two games for free this week.
    Let's find out what they are:


    * Blazing Sails

    If you couldn't figure it out from the name, this
    game is all about pirates and raging ship-to-ship
    battles on the high-seas. It's also lacks any real
    single-player content /and/ it is in early access.
    That's a trifecta of nope for me, but the game-play
    itself is reputedly pretty fun. Maybe worth a look,
    if you like the genre. And if you can find anyone
    to play with; apparently the servers are mostly
    empty these days...


    * QUBE Ulimate Bundle https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/bundles/qube-ultimate-bundle
    A "10th Anniversary" version of the game,
    including the original QUBE, the Director's cut
    version, various other stuff, and QUBE 2 (which you
    may already have on Epic). The game itself is a
    first-person physics puzzler (think "Portal" or
    "Talos Principle"); not a bad game, but QUBE didn't
    really add much to the genre. If you're in the mood
    for this sort of game, QUBE will probably more than
    satisfy, but - since I'm not - I'm not rushing out
    to play this one.

    Strangely, this one says it's "unavailable" on my web browser. Epic will
    have plenty of time to straighten that out, but I wanted to give a heads
    up.

    I have not heard of this game before. Shows how impactful it is, I suppose.

    Even on the client it was glitchy. It wasn't unavailable, but - at
    least originally - it wasn't marked as free until you got to the
    check-out page. Fortunately, I've seen this error before, so I wasn't
    too worried. Anyway, Epic doesn't have my credit card on file, so even
    if it wasn't $0.00 it wasn't as if I was going to lose any money on
    it.

    TL:DR; Epic Game store is still a mess. But free game is free game,
    and The Number goes up, so... ;-)
