O.K. that was pretty funny. It kind of makes me want to play
multiplayer. But there's the usual issue of scheduling, and it's
most definitely not appropriate for playing with the kids.

The biggest problem with MP is you can't just drop in somebody. You have
to start the campaign as multiplayer and play the entire campaign from
the beginning. The benefit is actual players can select their own
    interesting characters.

But I would just love it if I could activate multiplayer and have someone
drop in and play Gant at my progress in the campaign. You can't. One of
my gaming buds even offerred when we had to cancel a tabletop session and
was met by a chorus of "yeah... not so much" from the rest of the group,
all of which are playing BG3 at this point.

MP is probably pretty awesome, but not as awesome as my FtF group, so
we're not going to substitute Wednesday nights at a table for sitting
    alone at our computers.

    Alas.

Don't have a night anymore, so it'd (probably) be an improvement now.

I swear it feels like fights are actually taking longer in the game than
they did at the table when I was playing 5e, and I still forget or can't figure out how do do things as it's getting awfully complicated at 6th level, then there's how to game handles certain things, and results not what I'm expecting. I'm almost at the point I feel like I need to save after every turn because everything's so screwy.

Ironically it's got better characters and story than any 5e I played though, and probably all the way back through 3.5e.
