I'm not claiming it because... well, any regulars here can probably
guess why I don't need to claim it.

NWN was always a bit disappointing to me. Of course, as Bioware's
follow-up game to the "Baldurs Gate" franchise, I'm not sure /any/
game wouldn't have disappointed me. Those games were a /really/ hard
    bar to clear.

Still, between NWN's cumbersome viewing angle (I was constantly
spinning the camera around trying to get the best viewpoint), the
reduction of the party size from six to two, the switch-over from the
colorful bitmapped backgrounds of the Infinity engine games to the
rather drab polygonal engine in NWN, and the rather unengaging story
the game struggled to please. Additionally, I wasn't a big fan of the
D&D 3rd Edition rules, and was increasingly becoming discontented with
games that used a top-down viewpoint. So NWN never really had a chance
    with me.

Some of the fan-made mods for the game were quite impressive
achievements, however. I fondly remember re-playing "Pool of
Radiance" in the NWN engine; other SSI games - including "Eye of the
Beholder" - were ported as well. The engine was also put to good use
in other games; both the original "The Witcher" and "Star Wars:
Knights of the Old Republic" utilized modified versions of NWN's
    technology.

But as for the base game itself? I've tried to go back and play
through it a few times, and have abandoned the attempt more often than
not. I just don't enjoy playing it.

through it a few times, and have abandoned the attempt more often than

The base game I found o.k. I did finish it with a wizard who had a
black panther familiar (yeah, that's not allowed in any edition sans DM Fiat) The panther did most of the combat work :/

I was running 3e at the time with the local gang, but I had issues with
it and missed 2e (still do but can't seem to get back into it.) So it was
more familiar to me and I wasn't much opposed to it.

The adventure making was far more fun to me, I wish I still had the
adventure I made in it. I played through it quite a bit. It wasn't really anything more than a linear trip through random encounters with
what now would be called 'rogue like' elements, but I liked it. It was
in a way a precursor to Dark Souls games.

I played around with some of the fan made modules out there, but never
found any that grabbed me more than the one it came with. I do
remember a short one set in a farm with giant attack chickens that
was fun, but being short I quickly finished it.

I also remember people saying the expansions (DLC adventures mainly)
were much better than the base one, I think I did the first one of those
but never got around to the others as it didn't seem particularly any
    more interesting.
