It is always nice getting a freebie I actually want.

    Thank you.

Awww, now Zaghadka's at it. See what you started, Ant?. Soon I won't
have any purpose in this newsgroup. ;-)

Unsurprisingly, I can't benefit from this give-away, but it
nonetheless served its purpose as it dragged me back to the GOG site
and showed me a bunch of inexpensive games from the 90s and early
    2000s, which I subsequently purchased.

Games which, I am sure, will soon be offered as freebies that again
will provide me no benefit other than to convince me to buy more
games. And so the cycle continues...

... but anyway. The "Crusader King" series is one of those franchises
I can admire from afar, but never draw me in enough to keep playing. I
honestly can't remember which of the series I've played; they're all
sort of interchangable in my head. They're fine games, but I prefer a
bit more pizazz to my video entertainment; the CK series can be a bit
slow. Still, if you've never given the franchise a chance, this is a
great opportunity to see if you'll like it. Get it free, and give it
an honest attempt to impress you. You might - like me - get bored and
look for something a bit more intense... but it's quite possible the
game's depth will draw you in and make you a lifelong fan.

It's just that sort of game.

You know. I saw GOG's e-mail for this free game this morning, but I was
too BUSY. Hey, you didn't even post it! Zaghadka wins this round. Let's
see who wins tomorrow with Epic's freebies! :P

Yeah, it wasn't for me so I pass even if it was free.

I saw that. Decided to pass. I have CSKIII. Couldn't last through
the very lengthy and complex tutorial. Maybe I should just start
playing it. Who cares if I keep dieing!

The base game has been free on Steam for a few years now, so it's no
mistake and it should be free on GOG.com forever. The trick here is
that Crusader Kings II is peak Paradox DLC insanity. Playing the full
game with all of its DLC will cost you more than a full priced AAA
game, even if you bought all the DLC on sale as it is now. Even if
you ignored all the cosmetic DLC and just bought the DLC that affects
gameplay (eg. the through the "Royal Collection") you're still talking
paying almost as much as a full priced game.

Being on GOG.com is new however, so if you've been waiting for a DRM
free version of CK2, now you've got it. I don't really understand why
though it took so long to come to GOG. Lots Paradox games are on GOG, including the DLC heavy and still being developed Europa Universalis IV
and Stellaris I would've thought CK2 would've have joined them when it
went "free-to-play" and Crusader Kings III made it obsolete.

CK:II is one of the few grand strategy games I actually enjoyed as you
can almost play it like an RPG where the objective is to write a story
for your dynasty and not world dominance.
