• HumbleChoice for June 2023

    From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jun 6 17:31:00 2023
    Hey, it's the first Tuesday of the month. You know what that means.
    Time for more cheap games! Come on everybody, let's head on over to HumbleBundle and see what we get this month!

    (All games are through Steam, but to get them on the cheap you need to
    buy them through as a bundle at HumbleChoice)

    * Ghostwire Tokyo
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1475810/Ghostwire_Tokyo/
    A first-person adventure game that has you hunting ghosts in a
    near-future (and apparently rain-soaked) Tokyo. One part "Akira", one
    part "Yakuza", one part "Resident Evil"... mix well. Is the
    combination any good? Mostly; it probably could use a bit of polish to
    smooth away the rough edges but its novel enough those issues can be
    forgiven. It's gosh-darn pretty too. It is a game well worth adding to
    your library.

    * Remnant: From the Ashes - Complete Edition https://store.steampowered.com/app/617290/Remnant_From_the_Ashes/
    Another game mix; this one is "Dark Souls" crossed with "Fallout" with
    a little bit of open-world survival for good measure. Its biggest
    fault is the use of procedurally generated worlds, which allows
    'unlimited replayability' but also makes things seem very samey after
    a while. Still, it's interesting enough that it deserves a chance.

    * Curse of the Dead Gods https://store.steampowered.com/app/1123770/Curse_of_the_Dead_Gods/
    A top-down loot-focused action-RPG. Or, if you'd prefer, a
    Diablo-clone. Fine for what it is; not really the most exciting
    example of the genre, but fairly competent for what it is. If only I
    liked Diablo-clones...

    * Honey I Joined A Cult https://store.steampowered.com/app/841190/Honey_I_Joined_a_Cult/
    Essentially, "Prison Architect" except you're leading a cult instead
    of building the ultimate penitentiary. (Although some might say there
    is a lot of overlap between the two). It's a tycoon-style game with
    cutsey graphics; build up a cult - and your cult's compound - in order
    to attract new followers and earn money.

    * Eternal Threads
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1046790/Eternal_Threads/
    A first-person story-based puzzle game; sort of like "Portal" except
    more focused on the narrative. Use your timey-wimey powers to alter
    the timeline and keep six people from dying painful deaths in a house
    fire. An intriguing concept not quite matched by its execution.

    * Grime: Colors of Rot
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1123050/GRIME/
    A side-scrolling action-adventure that has your little sword-dude
    running across the screen whacking at grotesqueries. I get an strange "Oddworld" meets "Dark Souls" vibe from this one. Weird.

    * Turbo Golf Racing https://store.steampowered.com/app/1324350/Turbo_Golf_Racing/
    Basically, it's "Rocket League" except instead of cars playing
    football (a.k.a. soccer), it is cars playing mini-golf. Nudge the
    giant golf balls into the holes as you race against others. Looks fun.

    * Meeple Station
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/900010/Meeple_Station/
    "Startopia" meets "Dwarf Fortress" with a dash of pixel-art. Except it
    lacks the depth of either of its two inspirations, and the pixel art
    looks cheap.

    A good selection this month; none of them "must haves" but several are
    "pretty good" and only the last two count as filler. Are things
    picking up at HumbleBundle? You have a month to decide.
