• Epic Freebies!

So I keep receipts for each distribution service and I hit the century
    mark of freebies on Epic!

    Happy 100th to me!

My first freebie was Cave Story+, in December of 2020.

Perhaps COVID drove me into Epic's arms?

Tee-hee. I'd reached over 150 games on Epic by that point.

(It helps if you're not too picky about what you add to your video
    library ;-)

Perhaps COVID drove me into Epic's arms?

Just goes to show how damaging that disease really was. ;-)

But, in fairness, there have been a lot of really good free games
given away by Epic (a bunch of real stinkers too, but that's besides
the point). So long as you don't mind the games being a year or three
out of date, you can amass - and play - an number of excellent games
thanks to Epic's generosity. And there's a wide breadth of genres to
select from, too; whether you like stuff like "Alien Isolation" or
"Lego Batman" or "Subnautica" or "Borderlands", there's always been
    something to play.

(The only genre that seems to have been noticably shortchanged is
sports games, and even there have been a small handful. Just not as
    many as in other genres.

If you're new to PC gaming - or just want to bulk out your collection
with games you missed the first time they came around - it's hard
/not/ to recommend Epic for their freebies.

That's not to say I don't have some issues with the company (or their
client) but were I only interested in the games... signing up for an
account with Epic would be a great investment.

(I mean, not for me. By the time the games arrive as an Epic freebie,
I've already purchased and played them elsewhere. But that's because
    I'm an impatient idiot ;-)

The next one is pretty good, if you like 3d adventures!

My account shows 12/4/2015 Shadow Complex Remastered as the first
freebie, but then nothing until Conan Exiles Dev Kit in 12/2018; was that
when they began the freebies program in earnest ?

Looks like we signed up around the same time; Shadow Complex was how
    Epic roped me in too.

Of course, that was long before they released their store front and
started their weekly freebie offerings. IIRC, "Subnautica" was the
premier game that started the freebie program; the dev kit was just... something they gave away free? Apparently added to accounts
automatically too, because it's on mine as well and that's the rare
sort of "game" I /wouldn't/ add to my library.)

And it's been a long downward journey into the bowels of game-hoarding
    hell ever since. ;-)

Just FYI, I am listening to Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" as I
read this today, and everything just seems utterly EPIC.
