I had a colleague who did this 'back in the day'. Well, he only used
two monitors. I had no idea it was so involved (in fact, I don't even
remember that he used two PCs for that particular miracle, so maybe he
used some other method. It's been a long time so the details are, understandable, somewhat hazy.)
Not having dove headfirst onto the multi-monitor crazy-train yet, I
absolutely couldn't see the point; it didn't seem to offer any
advantage and now you were wasting double the desk-space on two
monitors. Perhaps had I known how complicated it was to get running
(assuming he was using the same software and not some other hack) I
might have been more impressed.
He also owned a Forte VFX1 (one of the early mid-90s VR headsets),
which is probably what inspired him. What a clunky thing that was; it
hugged your head completely. Wearing one of those felt like your head
was being embraced by a mindflayer's tentacles and was about as
welcome...
