Hello Big Brother.
'Big Brother' has been around in this regard for years. The only
change here is that Steam is sharing some of the information they've
collected about players back with the players (instead of hoarding it
for themselves or selling it to the publishers).
Honestly, though, this sort of thing has no interest to me. Firstly,
it isn't really telling me anything I already didn't know, or really
care about. That I played a lot of "American Truck Simulator" this
year? Well, duh! That I played xxx hours? Not really of any interest.
Certainly I can't imagine sharing this info with anybody. They'd care
even less than I. Is this supposed to inspire some sort of
competition? "Hahah, you only played 17 games last year, I played 43.
Loser!"
Or maybe my lack of interest just indicates I no longer have the heart
of a ten year old in me.
But amongst the many Steam's features, this one ranks pretty low in my
eyes.
But hey, never say Valve isn't getting into the XMas spirit. While
Epic and GOG may be shower us with games, from Valve we get 'Steam
Replay'. Thanks, PC gaming behemoth; it's good to see you spending so
much of your hoarded wealth back on your customers who propped you up
in your exalted position. ;-)
