Um, did we/I miss this in this newsgroup?
Sorry, I didn't post my usual announcement; as far as I can tell, I
overdosed and slept the entire day away (hence the total lack of posts
from me yesterday). Fortunately, there was an Ant available to take up
the slack ;-)

I took it! Darn it for missing the director's cut. :P
I was fortunate to get this game (even unconscious, I still manage to
snag a free game. Talk about muscle memory!). My Epic library shows
two items: "Death Stranding", and "Death Stranding: 3 Add-Ons" which,
I believe, include the "Director Cut Upgrade". So check your library;
you might not have missed out after all.
"Death Stranding" is one of those games that falls smack into the
center of "Japanese Weird" game design; a genre that I really WANT to
enjoy - because the games are usually very well made and have some
novel and exciting ideas - but also suffer from some odd design
choices (such as the walking mechanic in "Death Stranding") and
unusual - often unpalatable - settings and characters.
I typical attribute this to cultural differences between Japan and the
West (hence the arguably offensive "Japanese Weird"), although its
more likely better attributed to Kojima, the game's chief developer.
He's very much an auteur whose first and foremost goal seems to be to
make games that please him more than they do the general public.
Unfortunately, I've never been able to share in his vision, and
despite the obvious skill used to make his games, just can't get into
them.
Eventually I suppose I'll give "Death Stranding" a chance but if its
anything like the rest of Kojima's games, it's not one I'll play to
the end.
