• Mech.game - the honest NFT's

Just noticed this one and boy are they upfront about what this game is
    based on.

"Using NFT’s and merging it with decentralized finance and blockchain technology you will be rewarded simply by playing the game and since you
OWN your character and items, all the time and energy invested in
leveling them up makes them more valuable and it can be cashed out on
    the NFT marketplace."

that sounds absolutely ghastly as a game and an experience. in fact it
sounds like the only reason you'd play the game was to make your NFTs
    more valuable.

it comes down to NFTs being a solution looking for a problem, and this
    ain't it.

Against my better judgement, I visited that website. Some of my
    thoughts:

    Unsurprisingly, there's a dearth of in-game screenshots. Well, I'm
sure the game will be JUST as good looking as the splash screen
suggests. It's not like NFTs are renowned for bad artwork, after all.

And, oh, it's going to be a MOBILE game too. Those already have a
great reputation when it comes to a gameplay/value balance. Throwing
NFTs into that can only make things better, right?

And the NFTs allow pay-to-win too; it isn't just for cosmetics. New weapons/accessories/skills can be applied only to specific characters,
of course. God forbid you buy them once and have them accessible
forever; what sort of sort of socialist nonsense is that? If you want
to play the game a second time with two different characters, you
better pay again if you want to reuse those items. That's just The
    American Way.

It's an "AA" game. Odd that no publisher is mentioned; which big-name
publisher is behind this? Is it EA? Ubisoft? Take Two? Oh, none of
them? Sounds pretty Indie to me.

It's still in Alpha and they're selling NFTs already. No, nothing
sketchy about that. I have full confidence that not only will this
game be released, but these NFTs will gain in value and new players
will be begging me to sell them my first-run assets. It's all very
exciting. Rugpull? No, never heard of it.

    God, what a mess.

Fortunately, NFTs are largely on a downswing so fewer people are
likely to be caught up in this scam. Adding NFTs to your product is
more likely to get you ridicule than big bucks. The bulk of the sales
will probably be from the developers themselves trying to jumpstart
the market. Still, there are enough fools and die-hard adherants that
this company will still come out ahead. But the eventually collapse of
this game will just put another nail into the coffin of this stupid,
    stupid idea.

To me the website comes more as a cash grab from investors than anything >else.

    It almost certainly is.

There's a term used by NFT devotees, called a "rugpull". Basically,
what it amounts to is that somebody announces a new NFT (or NFT game,
or whatever), and then hypes it up to the sky. "Best art! Awesome
gameplay! New ways to sell your NFTs! And also, those NFTs are gonna
skyrocket in value!" with the aim of getting initial funding and early
sales. They developers will do a modicum of early work to make the
whole thing look promising to these early investors. Then, once they
get a good amount of seed money, the developers do a 'rugpull'
(pulling the rug out from under the feet of the unsuspecting,
obviously) and leave the project in an unfinished state.

    This website smells of 'rugpull'.

(I mean, NFTs and crypto stink of it in general, but the odor is much
    stronger with this game).

And yet... I'm sure they'll still get enough people to pay into the
project - creating a website and some concept art isn't that
expensive, so you don't need to attract that many fools - to see a
    profit.
