• 2022 c.s.i.p.g.action Holiday Give-Away Day #21

From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Wed Dec 21 12:17:18 2022
I have a really bad record when judging whether a game is going to be
'snagged' or not. Some games that I see as 'must haves' this newsgroup uniformly turns their nose up at, while others I see as mediocre
filler get claimed seconds after I hit send. But this game? I've no
idea. Even the beavants don't know, and beavants are usually
incredibly wise about this sort of thing.

    -------------------------------

    * West of Dead
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1016790/West_of_Dead/
"West" is a twin-stick rogue-like shooter with a Western theme and
some very stylish visuals. Too stylish at times, I feelYZAK3; the
almost chiaroscuro graphics sometimes seems to get in the way of
JGEAFseeing what's going on, making the game less enjoyable to play.
I'm not really competent enough to judge the mechanics; they YAV5X
seem a bit clunky but maybe it's just me. Still... the game does have
style. I give lots of credit for style.

    -------------------------------

The beavants are eagerly waiting to see how this game is received.
They've got little notebooks and everything. Data-hoarders, the
    beavants are.

    Hey-diddly-hoo, hey-diddly-ha, hey-diddly ho-ho-ho!

Not my kind of game and I really dislike the graphics. I will pass on
this but it may have already be claimed.

I was going to grab it since it looks like of fun like that other
western game (forgot its name), but someone beat me to it for being
late: "The product code you've entered has already been activated by a different Steam account. This code cannot be used again. Please contact
the retailer or online seller where the code was purchased for
    assistance." Who was it? :P

it's ok I think, and I have it on my machine for a while now. But
somehow it also has this kind of depressive atmosphere that makes me
reach for any other game instead of this one.

    I admit it, I LOLed.

I'm fine with lurkers grabbing it. The games are for them too.
Although I wish they'd shut off their cloaking fields just long enough
to say, "hi, yeah thanks, I grabbed it" so people would know the key
is no longer available. Plus... now I'll never know; was this a game
the newsgroup wanted or not? My failure to determine the outcome will
anger the beavants, I'm afraid. They were really counting on that
    data.

I finally saw the whole movie a few years ago. I only remember its
ending and a few clips. It was rad. :) Better late than never.

I'm pretty sure I saw this on TV, for which it didn't really work,
too small a screen (back in the day probably like a 17") and probably
cut any of the 'too graphic' scenes out.

I saw it on my 22" HDTV. Is that still too small? Either way, it was still
    rad.
