At this point, anyone who doesn't already have a copy of "The Witcher"
either has no interest in it, or is one of the vanishingly small breed
of new-to-PC gamers. GOG has given that game away for free more times
than I have fingers.* It greatly limits the impact of their
generosity.
And don't even get me started on the remake.** The original holds up
quite well. Yes, there's some jankiness to it, but that's part of its
charm. Honestly, half the fun of the franchise is seeing how it grows
and changes over the years, starting from what is - essentially - an
overdone "Neverwinter Nights" mod into the massive success that was
"The Witcher 3". The original's story and gameplay were intertwined
with the engine's limitations, and changing the one or the other
doesn't remake the game, it changes it completely.
Plus, you know, my whole opinion on companies always doing the 'safe'
thing by reinventing the wheel rather than taking a risk with new IPs;
I'm sick of it. I've played "The Witcher" already (and, as I mentioned
above, so probably has anybody who has half an inclination to do so);
I want something new. If you have to stick with the Witcher franchise,
at least extend the story rather than rehashing existing material. But
better yet, try out some new ideas. Please.
