• FREE GAMES: "Spirit of the North" and "The Captain"

From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Thu Sep 15 11:06:29 2022
Gamedate 2022.258. In our continuing quest for free games, the
starship Sispiga has come across the planet of Epyc, where the natives
have a curious weekly ritual of 'Give-Away'. We have sent an away crew
down to the planet's surface to investigate, and they have reported
the subjects of the most recent ceremony are:

    Spirit of the North https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/spirit-of-the-north-f58a66

    The Captain
    https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/the-captain

"Spirit of the North" is an action/adventure that seems a cross
between "Stray" (that cat game) and "Never Alone". An Indie title, it
is eavy on exploration and light on channel, and it has decent reviews
and very nice Unreal-powered visuals. Might be interesting; I added it
    to my library.

"The Captain" is less immediately appeaking to me, if only because it
leans so heavily into the 'retro graphics' thing. Nominally an
adventure it also has combat and crew-management to worry about.
Still, its got a sense of humor and a good soundtrack. I'm not so sure
about this one, but it doesn't immediately set my teeth on edge
(except for the visuals) so why not grab it? I did.

As usual, you have seven days to make your decision.

That only sounds good to me because it is outdoors and single player.
And because we had a den of red foxes with six kits in the yard this
spring. That was adorable and interesting. Still see a couple grown
    ups now and then.

I was interested in the cat game for a few minutes but I don't like
cats enough to play one and don't think I would care enough to take
care of it and keep it alive

    The Captain
    https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/the-captain

This one may put a little smile on my face for a couple of minutes so
I think I will claim it. I have been interested in a space strategy
and combat and exporation game for a couple of years. The Stardock
ones don't get great reviews and they seem so complicated to learn and
    run.

    Thanks Spalls.

The Captain is the more interesting of the two to me. Thanks for the
    reminder and links.

Yes! Three points to my side! Soon I will earn the 'posted-first-about-free-games-most-often' trophy that everyone
secretly wants and definitely isn't something I just made up.

I even have a place on my shelf all set up for it. You just wait; it
    will be mine!

    ;-)

Oh, wouldn't THAT be a glorious day. I could bitch and moan about
Steam /and/ NFTs all in one go! Just think of the time saved!

We can only hope Mr. Newell is paying attention! ;-)
