    That's the reason I use our Steam group if I want to post free games!

    I've considered that, but:
    1) not everyone here is on the Steam group,
    2) I want to encourage people to use Usenet, and if they know there's
    a chance for free games here, they're more likely to hang around (and
    maybe even post), and
    3) it doesn't really solve the problem of people silently claiming a
    game, it just limits /who/ gets the keys.

    So - at least as far as I am concerned - the risk of bots snagging a
    few keys is outweighed by the chance to promote Usenet's utility.
    Others may have different opinions, and that's cool, but that's why I
    do it the way I do.

    Plus, I love how active this newsgroup becomes in December ;-)

    Here's some more Indie games (the keys are rotated thirteen characters
    to the left, as was the custome of the time). If you do claim the
    game, please pipe up and let everyone know, thanks.

    * Driftland the Magic Revival 8L8Y6-259N5-NCVT3 https://store.steampowered.com/app/718650/Driftland_The_Magic_Revival/
    An Indie strategy/city-builder set in a fantasy setting. Sort of
    reminds me of "D&D Stronghold" albeit with top-down graphics. Reviews
    are mixed, although that seems to be more due to technical issues than complaints about core gameplay (and thus, hopefully, could be resolved
    in a later update)

    * Popup Dungeon 444J2-E9G6T-G0JVD https://store.steampowered.com/app/349730/Popup_Dungeon/
    "A tactical roguelike RPG inspired by our favorite tabletop games that
    lets you create any ability, item, villain, hero, and game
    imaginable." The character models remind me of this early CGI cartoon
    whose name I can't remember... anyway, reviews are favorable.

    * Moon Hunters I9ZTX-MJDVR-VN2X2 https://store.steampowered.com/app/320040/Moon_Hunters/
    "Create your own legend in a 1 to 4 player co-operative personality
    test! Explore a mystical Mesopotamian-inspired world that's different
    every time you play." Hmm, well, okay; that's an unusual idea for a
    game. It's received good reviews, even if it is apparently a very easy
    and short game, so if you don't like it, you won't have to invest very
    much time into it.

    * Rustler MXMWJ-X3R7K-CNX33 https://store.steampowered.com/app/844260/Rustler_Grand_Theft_Horse/
    a.k.a. "Grand Theft Horse". Sort of a GTA1 except set in the Wild
    West. And - as the trailer is quick to point out - you can catapult
    cows. I think this game has niche appeal, but for what it is, the game
    looks well done. If you like this sort of thing, this game will
    probably be a blast. But if you aren't in that demographic, will it
    please? I'm not sure.

    An odd selection of games, to be sure, but they're free and there's no
    sense in not being greedy. Make your video-game library just that
    little bit larger and grab one or two of these games. Remember, nobody
    ever said on their deathbed, "I sure am glad that I have a tiny
    video-game library!" (mostly because they were too busy saying things
    like "Aargh! Gurgle!" or "Pump up the morphine, please; dying hurts,"

    Moon Hunters and Rustler looked interesting, so I found they were already activated.

    Hey, didn't you find last year it worked better if you put some text between the bits so they weren't just bot harvested?

    If I knew they were going to someone actually interested I wouldn't mind,
    but with no word, I can only assume they're somehow getting resold
    and making someone a buck, or ending up in some now defunct accunt*
    run by a bot and will never see play.

    I don't think they're being harvested by 'bots.

    A 'bot could 'harvest' the keys from Usenet, but just doing that would
    leave them unclaimed. That harvest could then be sold to a
    third-party, but those keys would still be 'unclaimed'. It's only
    after they are associated to a personal account - added to a Steam
    library - that the key becomes defunct. And I have a hard time
    believing that - especially for the games above, which are Indie
    titles of limited appeal - that there was enough time for the keys to
    be scraped, sold, and then resold a second time to an actual customer
    before the 'regular' users of this newsgroup got a chance at them.

    So, it's more likely (I think) that we have lurkers (Hi, lurkers!
    Enjoy the free keys, but maybe say 'hello' sometimes?) who are
    snagging the goodies unseen. Presumably they are doing so because the
    games look interesting to them (or they have an overwhelming urge to
    grow their video-game library to hideous proportions, something I of
    course have no familiarity with ;-) but either way, I'm not too
    bothered.

    I mean, yeah, I'd rather the keys go to the 'actives' in this
    newsgroup, but since half the reason for my give-aways is encourage
    new users to visit Usenet, I'm not terribly upset at the alternative
    either.

    Anyway, I used ROT39 on those keys; surely no 'bot in the world could
    handle such a complicated cipher? ;-)
