• Polium Console for Spalls?

From JAB@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jul 7 10:30:45 2022
Deary me this has scam or maybe incompetence written all over it.
Basically what you're getting* is a console targetted at Web 3.0 or
things for crypto bros as I like to call it.

Even putting aside Web 3.0 there's a long list of things that should
    raise alarm bells.

    - The logo is ripped off from the Gamecube
    - The console is ripped off from some never finished console
    - How on earth are they going to fit all the tech required to met the performance that's stated in a box that's not much bigger than a
    standard controller
    - They used TouchId even though it's registered to Apple
    - You can pre-order one when the prototype is available but only by
minting some of their crypto currency
    - The dev team consists of four people, yes that's correct four people

Nothing to see here, move along people.

*Well I think the chances of getting anything is very low.

Wadda ya mean "nothing to see here"? There's a developing train wreck
    to see! :P

So why do you think this thing is aimed at me? I barely tolerate
consoles at all* , much less anything associated with
    crypto-nonsense**.

Even putting aside Web 3.0 there's a long list of things that should
    raise alarm bells.

    - The logo is ripped off from the Gamecube

Not to defend the device, but I disagree. They are similar, but not
identical. For one thing, the GameCube logo is shaded to create a
3D-effect, and has an arm connecting its inner shape to the outer edge
that the Polium logo lacks. Both are abstractions of the initial
letter of the console - the "GameCube" forms a "G", the whitespace in
the "Polium" console is a "P"; perhaps the former may have influenced
the latter, but it is equally likely that the Polium logo was created completely without awareness of the former. In any event, they are
legally quite distinct from one another.

Looking at the whitepaper, the only unusual tech is the fingerprint
scanner; everything else seems rather ordinary. Even its claims of "4K
at 120fps" doesn't mean much of anything - and is quite achievable on
even smaller devices - depending on the games. It is amazing the
amount of processing power you can fit into hand-held devices these
days, and this console is significantly larger and doesn't have
batteries or a screen taking up 90% of its shell.

Nothing to see here, move along people.

Almost certainly, and nothing I've interest in. Even without its Web3/crypto-crap connections, it seems at BEST like one of those
half-hearted kickstarter campaigns that over promises and
under-delivers (Ouya 2.0, perhaps?). At worst, its a scam designed to
do nothing more than try to prop up crypto-currencies a bit longer.

Either way, hardly worth the attention its gathering.

    * less because of any lingering PC Master Race snobbishness and more
    because I /really/ dislike using gamepad ;-)
** remember when the word "crypto" used to be primarily associated
with the cryptography and not scams? I miss those days.

What no links? I have to go look it up myself? Well here's a story on it.

Looks like a load of crap just like NFTs.
