Pass for me.
Yeah. I mean, I grabbed them (free is free), but yeah, I know what you
mean.
"Car Mechanic Simulator" is an incredibly niche title. You gotta enjoy tinkering with cars, playing computer games and this sort of
'real-life' virtual work-simulation all in one to get any enjoyment
out of it. There's nothing wrong with the game itself (or the genre;
see my own inexplicable love of the "EuroTruck Simulator" franchise or
"PC Building Simulator") but its definitely got a very narrow
audience. I assume "Car Mechanic Simulator's" appeal is the same as
its PC-building cousin; it lets you have the fun of tinkering (even
virtually) even as the cost of the real thing becomes more and more
outrageous.
"Game of Thrones" is harder to defend. Like "Car Mechanic", it's got
niche appeal - I think a lot of people look askance at the idea of
playing a board game on a PC when, you know, if they really wanted to
they could just play the board game in real life - and the game itself
isn't that exciting. This digital edition doesn't really add anything
to the tabletop experience, nor does it utilize any of the assets from
the better known television series. Plus, Game of Throne's star has
really been fading since the less-than-stellar 8th season.
All around, these aren't particularly exciting offerings from Epic,
who are - after a couple weeks of offering adequate (if not great)
games - returning to the mediocre freebies that has become customary
for their 2022 give-aways.
Next week's giveaways aren't looking that thrilling either. But free
is free, and I have a duty to click 'add to library' for most every
game, and so the number grows ever larger ;-)
