Urgh, that was awful.
I think its biggest problem is that it was trying to emulate the
polished look of a TV show, and - quite honestly - I find that sort of
think far less appealing now. It smacks of licensing deals and
marketing people and a need to keep the sponsors happy. But at the
same time, it also wants to copy the frenetic energy, weird cuts and
overlays common to streamers. This not only made the whole thing feel schizophrenic, but even more dishonest. "We have the money to make a
proper show but in order to appeal to the kids we're gonna make it
look like we're a youtuber's stream filmed with a $100 camera in his
basement". Add to that the excessive hype and marketing ("buy this
game we're talking about now on Steam!") and the whole thing was
painful to watch.
But hey, I'm old. I dunno if this is the sort of thing that appeals to
"the kids" but I really hope it doesn't. It is transparently
commercial, dishonest in its messaging, and doesn't really offer
anything that you can't find better produced and written elsewhere.
