I've never played a diablo game, but this should be of interest to many!
Well some people might be, but I'm not one of them:
Here are my five reasons that I won't be registering for the beta ;-)
1) It's a loot-focused action-RPG. I don't hate the genre, but they
aren't top of my list of games I gotta play. A little goes a long way,
and - having played dozens of hours of Titan Quest just a year ago,
I'm set for a good long time.
2) It uses an "isometric" top-down viewpoint. I used to swear by this
vantage point, but these days I find it breaks the sense of immersion
I so crave. I like to be down-n-dirty in my gameworlds now, not
hovering above it.
3) It's a Diablo game. Not that there's anything wrong with
"Diablo"... but it's been done to death. What else can they
meaningfully do with the IP that they haven't already? I'm not
interested in retreading the ruined town of Tristam or smacking Bhaal
again. Give me something new.
4) I'm not doing betas. I've no interest in buggy, incomplete
software, especially when the main purpose of offering it isn't to
listen to my feedback but instead to generate hype for the
end-product. Maybe I'll look at the game when it's done, but until
then don't try to draw me in with claims of artificial scarcity
("register now or miss out!").
5) And most importantly, it's an Activision/Blizzard game, and I'm
just not engaging with them anymore. The company itself is scummy, and
their products are mediocre, even before taking into consideration
their outrageous monetizations. This whole announcement is a
transparent attempt to distract from "Diablo Immoral's" awful launch,
and I'm not falling for it, and I'm not supporting the company until I
see an earnest attempt to change their employee- and customer-facing
policies.
YMMV, IMHO, etc.
