• Amazon Prime Games For June

From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Sun May 29 13:57:20 2022
They're not free games, since you have to pay for an Amazon Prime
membership, and technically they aren't available yet, but here's the
list of games you'll be getting in June:

    Far Cry 4
    Escape from Monkey Island
WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship
    Astrologaster
    Across the Grooves
    Calico

Obviously, the big one is "Far Cry 4" which, although aging, remains
an excellent - if completely unsurprising - game. I preferred FC4 to
the 3rd and 5th games, if only because the villain was far less
annoying in that one (the gameplay is essentially identical between
all the games so no preference one way or another there).

The inclusion of "Escape From Monkey Island" is no surprise, seeing as
in past months they've offered the first, second and third game in the franchise; the addition of the fourth was obvious. "Escape" isn't a
bad game, but suffers both from sequelitis, and an uncomfortable
control scheme. Plus, I just liked the cartoony motif of the third
game more. But I'm not going to complain; it's still a solid LucasArts adventure game, so even if it's not their best work, it's still worth
    playing.

And the rest? Well, "WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship" is a rather
humdrum rally sim. "Astrologaster " is an indie title that plays out
something like a visual novel about using astrology to cure patients,
and "Calico's" gameplay is vaguely reminiscent of Stardew Valley,
albeit with a radically different visual style. I hesitate to call
these 'fluff' since there are surely people who enjoy these games much
more than the two games above I've highlighted (Farcry/Escape), but
    I've little interest in them.

Plus all the usual assortment of lootboxes, cosmetics, etc. that flood
Amazon prime each month (and I completely ignore).

These new games will be made available on June 1st.

Astrologaster is probably the only one I think I might like to try and
possibly Across the Grooves. Far Cry 4 I would get just for some
mindless action but I'm presuming that I'll have to get another game
client to use it so that's going to be a pass.

Yeah, if Prime Gaming's past history* is anything to go by, you'll
need to associate your Ubisoft account with your Amazon prime account
to claim "FarCry 4". They've already done that with games on Origin
and Epic and GOG, so this would be par for the course for Amazon.

I'm not to upset at the idea, since - sadly - Amazon probably already
    has amassed a large portfolio on my family's likes and dislikes;
what's a little more at this point? And it is long past the time to
bitch about yet-another-game client, what with every service under the
sun demanding you use their app to access their services. Anyway, it's
not like I'll be able to claim the game anyway, since I already own it
on Ubisoft and they don't allow duplicates (hint: expect a free game
key for "Farcry 4" to show up on usenet in a few days ;-)

Heh, I like bitching about why do people do that are they just trying to
    pee me off.

I'm ok with having an app if it does something but what I do mind is
when you have to have an account for no apparent reason. Yes I'm looking
    at you Nvidia and Logitech.

Well I've grabbed Astrologaster after giving up on Infra and rather like
it really. One of the few games that actually gets a bit of humour in
it. I would say think of Upstart Crow but I can now here people having
    to go to google.
