• FREE GAME: Bioshock Collection

From Spalls Hurgenson@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 26 12:41:21 2022
Are we tired of all these freebies yet? Hell no! More free games for
    everyone!

This week on Epic Game Store, we get:

    Bioshock: The Collection https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/bundles/bioshock-the-collection

The name says it all; it's all three Bioshock games collected into one
package, including all the DLC. Bioshock 1 & 2 are the remastered
    editions too.

    I always found that the Bioshock games overhyped and under-delivered;
despite some nice artistic flourishes, their gameplay wasn't all the
exciting and their narratives were fairly pedestrian (not to mention
ham handed in their messaging). They were competently made, sure, but
closer to B-list than A-list titles. Still, they're worth playing and
if you don't have them in your library, well, now you don't have an
excuse not to try them out. They aren't gonna blow your mind with
their gameplay but you'll have a fun few hours mucking about in sunken
Rapture or floaty Columbia. Definitely worth a grab.

One week and counting down; get it before it's gone.

The first Bioshock I was very disappointed in but that was mostly my
fault as I bought into all the hype surrounding it and within a couple
of hours realised that it was basically just another shooter. Infinite I
rather liked as I didn't have expectations as to what it was or more
    correctly wasn't.

Claimed it. I think I was in the middle to end of BioShock and may
have played most of the one before.

Just checked my Steam library. Infinite is installed and it said I
only played it 9 hours. Probably mostly on my last PC.

My Epic library is too big now to check (thanks in large part to you)
    but I think so.

It sort of depends on how you define "best freebie".

It's not the first time they've offered three games in one week (or
even three games in one day).

It's not even the best offering by price.

And "best three games" is extremely subjective (as mentioned, I don't
think the Bioshock games themselves are superlative examples of the
genre, and other offerings have excited me more).

Regardless, it is an extremely generous offering and one worthy of
    being added to anyone's library.

Infinite's gameplay was more interesting, but its world building
suffered. The first two games felt more alive. "Infinite" felt far
more linear, funneling the player between setpieces and pop-up
encounters and giving it a more funhouse feel as opposed to a world
    people actually lived in.

The gunplay was more intense in the third game, though.
