there others that have less spam? I still seem to be getting a lot of
weird spam things in between normal posts.

Yes, ES's owners are as far as I'm aware the only ones battling the
spam. There's still been a couple leak through in the last week here,
but very manageable.

It's free, so might as well change to it at least until google kills off posting.

You could instead set anything coming from an email @google.com as
filtered, that should get rid of everything too, might get rid of all my
posts older than the last month, and anybody replying to post from 1994,
but that's probably worth it. They'll still be available to look up on
the google archive (for the moment anyway.)

I don't know, for me ES seems good enough. Although I've enabled
filtering for Google Groups posters in some groups when spam comes
through. Apparently (from posts in eternal-september.support) some of
the spammers care and try to adapt to the filtering various Usenet
servers do which seems completely incomprehensible. Maybe they have some
kind of monetization metric that works on Usenet distribution of that
spam, somehow. I guess they could show it to their customers claiming
their spam has been distributed? Or they have a specific target in mind
and that works as a metric?

an announcement that they had to block a domain, or something like that.

But take what I write with a grain of salt. I have not been checking
daily, so maybe the spam is getting removed from the server before I get
to login and refresh at the end of the day.
