Not a bad deal but more than I'm willing to pay, still have the
remastered first one untouched in my library.

Yeah. Though I've played both the original & remastered AW1, I'm leaning towards letting this one slide unbought for a while. There are so many
major titles coming in March timeframe I feel like sitting tight and playing
Ye Olde Backlog till then. Many good deals on the Epic store now though!

I mentioned it elsewhere, it's called Xananews (free) and I'm really
liking it so far. It does only one thing and absolutely nothing else
(no mail, calendar, chat, address book, none of that crap), and does it
very well. It's only 5MB decompressed (TBird is close to 500MB now with
all that crap on top of it) and very customizable.

I had never heard of it before so I was a little suspicious at first
but it passed the Virustotal test with flying colors. It's also not
open source so I may or may not not stick with it, we'll see.

I'm also wondering, and wondering what's driving him bonkers about Thunderbird, since I'm using it now.

It's bloated, for one thing, and I hate bloat. But fine, I can live
with that if the program works well - and it does for the most part,
but when it doesn't boy oh boy trying to troubleshoot the dang thing is
a nightmare. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I couldn't
write new posts, the button disappeared on me and the keyboard shortcut wouldn't work. Not to mention the fact that if I let it sit more than a
minute or two I'd get an error when trying to get (or send) new posts.
I have always assumed this was Eternal September's fault, but now that
    I'm using a different client I realize it's TB's own doing.

They also pulled a GOG on its users some time back saying there would
be no more updates or some such (it's been a while, don't remember the
details) but since then the program's been getting more updates than
ever before. Again, fine if said updates improve the program in some
way but usually they are ridiculous UI changes that make no sense to me.

I could go on, there's been many other little glitches and annoyances
over the years but these were the main culprits to me.

To paraphrase Obi-Wan, "Do you blame the megacorp that keeps making
pointless changes trying to monopolize it or the group effort to keep up
    with those pointless changes?" :P
