    about it.

I have fond memories of scooting across the large open worlds,
blasting people with my Frisbee-gun (there was in-game terminology for
all that, but it's been twenty years and I've forgotten it all!). I
wasn't, I admit, the best of players in the game - I never quite
mastered the jetpack - but I enjoyed the ambience and openness of the
maps. It was quite a change from the constrained corridors of most
shooters - even arena-shooters like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament,
which faked openness quite well. Being able to roam miles felt almost >miraculous on the limited hardware of the day.

Oh, and the power armor. I loved the power armor. I'm a sucker for a
    game with power armor.

This new game - "Tribes 3: Rivals", it's called - is going to be an >multiplayer only shooter; essentially, a modernization of what made
the original so memorable. Supposedly, there's a free playtest going
on right now (I'm not going to bother; I've little interest in
unfinished games). It looks pretty enough, although still dated (I'm
guessing by the screenshots and title that the game is utilizing the
old "Tribes 3" engine and assets, a game which came out in 2004!).

Will I play it, once it gets officially released? I honestly can't
say. My desire for multiplayer shooters has diminished greatly over
the years (sadly, too, have my skills. I'm far less twitchy than I was
two decades ago ;-). But I'll probably grab the game, for nostalgia's
    sake.

Yeah, that was a good game! It holds a similar place in my heart to the original UT.

I'm actually excited about this one! That doesn't happen much any more.
