    Honestly, I can't say I'm impressed. Oh sure, technically the lighting
    effects are better and the textures are a bit sharper... but the
    additions don't really make the game look BETTER. They just make the
    stuff that wasn't updated - the low-poly models, the static lighting
    effects, the blocky level design - stand out more.

    Personally, I think the original version of "Half Life" looks better
    than this update.

    And why they'd even bother after "Black Mesa" was released, I can't
    even imagine.

    I assume you're joking here? Valve is certainly taking the piss.

    I have both Valve's lame "Source" edition and Black Mesa, which is a
    proper Source edition.

    Even with Black Mesa, it feels really dated. Never got to Xen in that one though.

    Pay for Black Mesa folks. It's $20.

    Half-Life Source was bad. I wasn't expecting a remake. In fact I was
    pretty happy with what it was, graphically speaking. But the game logic
    was a buggy mess, and they never got around to fixing it.

    But then, Black Mesa feels dated? I haven't played many games since it
    came out, and it shows. I was surprised to see how much juice they had
    managed to squeeze out of the Source engine.

    Regarding Source 2, I tried Counter-Strike 2 and I was underwhelmed: graphically it wasn't that different from its predecessor. (And yes, I
    played it at max settings.)
