• Looking for a RiscPC

From gwionm@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Sat May 23 18:50:01 2020
    Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all keeping well in lockdown.

Does anybody have a RiscPC for sale? Unfortunately mine was badly water damaged in storage then thrown out a while ago so it’s been a few years since I’ve had some acorn hardware to play about with. RISC OS on the pi is amazing but I’m missing my
    old beast.

    Any spec will do.

    Thanks

    G

    Yup.

    Take yer pick... :-)

I even noticed an 'Optima' amongst the examples.

I gave away all my work ones 15 years ago. One mention, and they went like
hot cakes! IIRC One taker had two, to put into remote controlled
submersibles he built and used for the North Sea oil biz!

    At a price!

    However, probably safer than Ebay.

I've seen them turn up on charity stalls at shows but that's not an option
    for the foreseeable future.

I had a feeling someone would suggest CJE but they’re a bit out of my price range.

I could be tempted by a machine with a faulty motherboard and fit the pi internally so at least I’d have the “feel” of the RiscPC then replace the motherboard at a later date.

Currently keeping my eye on eBay as recently completed listings are around £100 which seems reasonable.

You could ask bart@tremby.net as he's selling off Jim Nagel's effects (see csa.misc) - I think there was at least one RPC in the inventory.

Worth asking over on the StarDot forum, there are often old machines
available on there, sometimes needing fix ups.

A user has contacted me and is very generously sending a RiscPC for the price of postage.

I’m very excited to get my head down and try and do some programming when it arrives.

I’m sure I’ll end up visiting some shows once we get back to some normality.

    Thanks everyone who responded.

In the meantime, do keep in touch via the various Acorn groups and mailing lists. There are many mailing lists for help and advice with specific
    software.

If you are going to do some programming, I suggest
comp.sys.acorn.programmer for any questions you may have.
