    SPOILER AHEAD --

Hi, earlier I was seeking help in AITD2 for Grace Saunders
because her section as actor begins for me differently from
a friend's and different from what the strategy guide would
have one expect, to wit (SPOILER KIND OF if you're still
in part 1, Carnby's mansion trials) -- quoting myself:

This is what happens to me. After Carnby meets his match in the
hall (the strategy guide says in the guard room), the screen goes
black, and then begins "my" part 2. Grace is standing next to
the bench that blocks off the maze outside the mansion; we see Jack
and Elisabeth walking Carnby single file out the door and to the left
of the entrance. Grace can go two ways -- continue down the
front drive, but there's a goon there; return to the house. Ok,
she returns. She can't go up the steps. In the left cul-de-sac
off the house there's nothing to be done. She goes to the right
where we saw the group go. There's a car parked there, right in
front of the little (locked) gate exitway. Grace attempts to search
car but the only place she has any luck is at the trunk. The second
she attempts to open it, a goon comes striding out the mansion door
and makes his way to the driver's seat. Meanwhile the trunk opens
and Grace charmingly jumps up into the trunk (which has opened)
which closes on her, and I'm told she's found a red billiard ball
which I take. We travel through the exit way and drive for a
few seconds. Then the car stops (presumably Elisabeth, One-Eyed
Jack and Carnby are inside), and the goon turns it so it's in
a horizontal position, blocking the driveway. At the end of the
drive is a little gazebo-type-thing where the goon joins two more
of his kind, and they begin to have what looks like a heated dis- >cussion, gesticulating and walking about excitedly, quite absorbed
in this moment of comaraderie. Grace meanwhile (automatically)
slips out of the trunk. I can't get her to go back. The only "thing"
in sight for her to get is at the edge of the gazebo, something
yellow. If I'm cautious Grace is able to slip across the grass
and snatch it and back off back to the car before being spotted.
It's that wretched yellow hook Carnby last used! I still can't
get her back in the trunk. If Grace goes back to the gate at the
house's side entrance, she either just stands there or gets caught.
She can't go near the gazebo. If she walks left into the grass,
she either wanders into the road proper (and gets caught), or around
the side/back of the mansion and I get a message the gist of which
is "Lost, little girl"?. Each time she gets caught, or "lost,"
I see the ending with Carnby hanging by his feet on the ship and
    it's over.

Ok, I figured it out, she's "safe" now in the ship. In case any of you
get that scenario instead of the more orthodox one, and wind up wanting
to throw in the towel ... DON'T! It's kind of senseless, but this is
what you do: Have Grace walk left across the drive and into the
grass, not close to the road, not close to the house, but right through
the trees. Don't let her wander too far out or you'll get a message
"I don't want to go to hospital" (that's when she's near the cliff
drop). Around a tree that appears to be hollow (yet yields no entry)
you should catch sight of a stick with a little flag at the top, maybe
a golf kind of thing (?), anyway, it's in a little grassless patch.
Go to the stick. Use the billiard ball there. Then a statue will
rise up out of the ground. I think it must be Shorty Leg. Anyway,
walk over to it, face it from the front, and use the yellow hook
she picked up at the gazebo's edge. It makes the arm on the statue
move, and then a pirate bursts out from the hollow in the tree and
says something the gist of which is, "ah ha, we've caught you," but this time it's OK -- that's the path to the ship! What a relief. Sorry
for taking up so much space if no one but I has had to face this ...
still, if you're playing the game and not here yet, you may want to
take note, because maybe it will happen to you too!
