Cadd Electronics presented this year at the Chicago TI Fair a new TI-99/4A compatible computer.
The CaDD 99/5C is a single PC board approximately 6" × 6" that emulates:
■ The Texas Instruments TI-99/4A Home Computer console. Does not include TMS9918A VDP.
■ The Yamaha V9938 Video Display Processor.
■ A Myarc FDC with four emulated DSDD disk drives.
■ An Asgard Memory System (AMS) with 1 MB memory.
■ A 20 MB Thierry Nouspikel IDE hard drive with DSR modification by Fred Kaal.
■ Destroyers and Sons Atomic Powered Software Company (DSAPSC) SID Master 99 card.
The PC Board offers USB mouse wired to be 9938 compatible, a USB keyboard, and a VGA monitor connection.
There were also pinouts for a RS232 connection, but only with pins 2 & 3, along with ground.
There was going to be a cartridge connector, but this was not shown at the TI Faire. There is also a side port so one can connect to a PEBox, however, it does not appear with all the embedded hardware would be necessary. At maximum, I think only a
sidecar TIPI would be sufficient that would then give internet capability to the unit.
Eric Firestone has done an excellent job. The board has 4 microprocessors. The unit is not cheap at $800, but considering all the hardware designed within the unit, one can not buy the individual components and setup a TI system any cheaper.
