• What interface do I need for the WiModem232?

From cb meeks@21:1/5 to All on Tue Feb 6 06:20:16 2018
So I have the WiModem232 and I've used it successfully with my classic Mac. I have a null modem cable for the Mac that plugs right into the modem.

But I have no such thing for the TI.

What kind of cable/adapter would I need for the TI?

Also, what terminal program do you recommend?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure if you can use the TIMXT terminal emulator with your setup. I'm thinking not. The best TI-99/4A program assuming you have a RS232, 32K, and floppy drive is Telco. You can find it on my BBS at 9640News.ddns.net:9640.

You will need to make sure you use two command options. One, is AT&K1 and AT*T1. It is a Telnet BBS so that is why the *T1 needs to be there. For non-Telnet BBS's such as Heatwave.ddns.net:9640 and FusionBBS.ddns.net:9640, those two need AT&K1 and AT*T0 configuration options for the moment. It depends if they turn on the telnet configuration back in their BBS's.

As far as a cable, you need a RS232 cable keeping in mind pins 2 and pins 3
are reversed from the rest of the PC world. You will probably need to wire
up a cable youself if you have never had a cable to connect to a modem.

What hardware do you have on your TI-99/4A?

    Later,

    I have the following:

PEB (empty...no cables for it. Just the box and PSU).
    32K "Side car" expansion.
    F18a
SD card (forget what it's called....basically able to load software from SD). Speech Synthesizer

you're going to need a RS232 card for your PEB or a NANOPEB which has RS232 or a sidecar RS232 to use a modem. I have nanos periodically on my site (arcadeshopper.com) out of stock right now though, lots of rs232 cards on ebay these days as well.

Thanks for the help. I'd love to get that PEB going. Would you believe I got it for free years ago!

Unfortunately, I don't have the interface card or cables for it. Do you have any idea where I could get those? (besides the insane eBay prices)

Sounds like you have two options.

One, locate the RS232 device Greg from Arcadeshopper was referencing, or two, find the interface card for the PEBox as well as an RS232 card. I've seen RS232 cards on Ebay listed for about $100 with one listed now at $54.95 plus about $9 for shipping.

Myself, in your shoes, I would probably wait for Greg's RS232 option if he thinks more will be available in the near future. If you end up going with
the PEBox route, you will need the interface card and RS232, and then eventually a TI disk controller and a disk drive.

If you are lucky and search Craigslist, there may be an opportunity to find one. Or, you could just post a Want Ad on Craigslist for your area and see
if you find anyone with one.

Thanks. That's a good suggestion. I will probably just wait. Getting my PEB running is still on my want list. I always wanted one when I was a kid.

Funny enough, Craigslist is where I got my PEB years ago for free.
