    So much fun, thank you Antoine & Olivier. Very well done. Watching the movie is fun. The quick save & load is very useful when you advance the difficulty levels. I keep thinking of using the movie's from Dragon's Lair as screen savers for the ][gs.

    Great work.

    All the best

    Antoine and Olivier, thanks you so much for these Dragon's Lair games! I remember playing Dragon's Lair in the arcade on laserdisc machines and spending lots of time doing that. I can only hope that there are more games that you'll be porting to the GS.

    "Space Ace" would be the next obvious one (if not already done).

    None of them are really "games" though. They're more like animated
    stories where you occasionally have to push the correct controller at *precisely* the correct time, otherwise you die. They look great, but playability was abysmal ... a massive exercise in extreme frustration.

    I've thought of trying to do a port of "Cliff Hanger" to Linux but last
    time I tried, the FFMPEG libraries for video decoding were in constant
    flux.

    Apple IIGS versions of "Dragon's Lair" games were developed by
    ReadySoft (the same company that did many other home computer versions
    of the games) back in the early 1990s.

    - Dragon's Lair
    - Dragon's Lair: Escape from Singe's Castle
    - Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp
    - Space Ace

    but for some peculiar reason, only the "Space Ace" one seems to have
    actually been publicaly released.

    Yes, they _are_ games. You are conflating _what_ defines a game with _quality._ "Proper" Games have:

    * a winning state, and
    * a losing state.

    "Pseudo" Games or Quasi-Games, in contradistinction don't have a winning state, don't have losing state, or have neither. Typical examples include shitty hurry-up-and-wait mobile games, idle clickers, and almost all MMOs. Cue that old MMORPG joke: How
    do you win an MMO? By not playing. /s

    Dragon's Lair has both a winning state and a losing state; thus it IS a "Proper" Game.

    Now as to whether QTE (Quick Time Events) makes for engaging gameplay, yes I agree wholeheartedly, QTE tends to make for BAD games due to how bland, repetitive and boring they tend to be. There are exceptions such as Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution,
    etc. The difference is those are proper games because they have winning and losing states. The QTE in those is actually engaging since you are making (replaying) music.

    Getting this back on topic, from a technical perspective, this is amazing work Antoine!

    Michael
