From Scott Comstock@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jan 4 14:26:17 2020
Has anyone had any luck getting a license for the PS/2200 emulator?
I've sent several requests and never received a response.

I sent one on the 29th. No response yet. My old license
expired on 31 December so I am dead in the water at this
    point.

I sent a renewal request several months ago. I never got the promised e-mail with the license. So I gave up (for now).

I just got an email saying I did not provide the requested info
even though I had attached the same form I used the first time.
They provided a URL for the software download but I already have
it installed. I saw nothing about requesting a license there.
I attached license-request.txt again. We'll see what happens.

This URL doesn't only provdie download, but solicits reacceptance of terms & conditions - it's not perpetual and it's required by their legal department approve generation of license file

    Maybe it should say that.
    It says:
"Please register to request a download of ClearPath OS 2200 Express"

Nothing there about being required for a license. And, as I said, I
already have it downloaded so expecting me to go there is rather
    disingenuous.

I expect that the key will take a few days to acquire, as our key generator

Seriously, dude? Ya got one fucker on the planet that can generate keys? Shit! Call me and send me the program, I'll generate 'em.

Anybody figured out how the key works 'cause it AIN'T transferable betwixt systems. They only ask for a name and location and must be pulling all sorts of config errata.

That's OK, I'm still stroking out over the MCP Express system. WHO designed this? Aliens? I thought OS390 / ZOS over on Hercules was weird.

Weird compared to what? If you're expecting OS2200 to be more, ah,
familiar than MCP Express or OS390, you're probably going to be
    disappointed.

I received an email from Unisys earlier in the week that I only now just discovered. Apparently all of my emails (from a couple of different email accounts) wound up in the junk folder and the attachment with the license request (for whatever reason)
    became corrupted/lost.

So, I'll be trying again, after migrating my personal email domain away from a VPS to Exchange Online (something I'd been considering for a while, precisely because of situations like this)

Are you commenting on the design of MCP in general or on the MCP Express implementation of MCP functionality?

My problem was that I'd registered and downloaded the software, but failed to e-mail the license request text file.

I repeated the process, correctly this time, and it worked fine. As they say, it helps to RTFM.

Well, I am sure there are a lot of us here who wish you luck. But you
have to start with the idea that neither of these systems are like
"modern" systems such as Unix or Windows. They are also completely
different from each other. And, while reference manuals are freely
available on line, there is very little tutorial or introductory
information to help someone unfamiliar with these systems to get started.

But if you do have questions, post them here, and I am sure someone will
    try to help you.

    Hi

just to let you know. I did jump through some hoops, but I got the license this past weekend.
I am able to run PS2200.

It is just a hobby for me, but it is fun and it works.
Only problem, I get a message on the ROS console that says that a "key" expired on 2020-05-31.

    Cheers
