  • Gemini PDA - the Psion successor?

    I'm just wonder because they are saying, you can run both _Android_ or
    _Linux_.

    Now, to me, Android contains the Linux-cernel (as far as I know). So
    Android is Linux, too! And the other distribution with Linux is
    Debian. Both are in the mind of Unix.

    What I have seen yet is that the desktop is very animated. A bit too
    much for me I think.

    I still wait to receive mine, too.

    According to an email just in:

    Gemini final assembly starts at the factory on 29th of January at the factory - in less than a week!

    Shipping will start soon after.

    The Gemini team is going to China this weekend to oversee the mass production assembly starting next Monday.

    We are making final tweaks to the firmware to be locked down this week before Friday.

    Our aim is to complete the first mass production run , so that the first units are shipped out to Gemini backers before Chinese New Year.

    Any feedback from anyone who bought one. My latest in a very long line of 3a's is still chugging on and I need to be convinced it's worth the £599 as opposed to the £20 to replace my 3a from ebay.

    (I should clarify, this isn't because the Iphone is better than the Gemini, it is that the pocket the Gemini would go in is already full of iPhone. The Gemini might go with me more often when the weather cools down and I am wearing more pockets)

    If you already have a Psion / Gemini slot in your life then I think that the Gemini would get a lot more use in your case than it does in mine.

    If the current price was the same as the price I paid then I would definitely say "go for it". But they have become a lot more expensive now.

    The question is whether the internet connectivity adds enough to the package to make it worth the price. I would suspect that if you already heavily use a Psion then it probably is.

    They recently announced an Agenda App, which fils in a gap in the original Gemini offering.

    I've had one for two months, and use it as my sole device (i.e. a lot). It's a bit awkward as a phone, but as a pocket computer it's really seriously good. It does have a few flaws - Android doesn't work well on a landscape device in some ways - but I
    think those will gradually get ironed out. Where it matters, the keyboard is excellent, and I find it a delight to use (most of the time). Feels nicely built too.

    Here, too. It's a nice device with a nice keyboard. I just don't use it
    very often at the moment because I'm already at home (and not on
    travel).
