I upgraded my power supplies in my model 3 (since the originals
    smoked/caug
on fire}. Everything looks good when I reboot EXCEPT now the
    previously
working floppy drives no longer do. I tested the power supply
    voltages and
    they look okay. I hooked
up several different floppy drives and they all do the same
    thing....basica
nothing. When I boot the crt says "Diskette?" and the floppy drive
    is
connected but the led never lights up or spins...I don't think its
    a bad
floppy drive as it used to more
or less work (some errors, needed cleaning} when booting before I
    took the
model 3 apart. Any ideas? Please don't tell me it's the floppy controller....much more cost/work to fix that.

Jeff, the smoke likely is nothign to be concerned on your model 3 power supplies, it is usually teh RIFA Capacitors (power line filters) that
    look
lioke yellow semi tranparent rectangles, cut them off and replace or
    use
    psu without them to test.
regarding your floppy drive not working, Iwould open case and examine
    the
flat ribbon cable that runs between motherboard and floppy disk
    controller
to make sure its not rotten. I also suggest disconnectingthe top drive
    and
make sure your not using a twisted cable for your floppy drive.
the fdc when it fails, simply will make your mdel 3 boot directly to
    CASS?
if it doesnt then it may still be teh FDC but liekly something else,
    caps on
    floppies can burn out.
