On most Tandy 1000's I've seen that error comes from having the
printer cable plugged in upside down on the back of the computer.

Can I ask why you replied to a 20 year old post?

To Gene: Maybe the guy has a similar problem and is wondering what the solution may be. Lighten up and let the newsgroup die in peace.

As far as the printer port not being used and I am not familiar with the 1000, I would check to see if there is a header cable going from the motherboard to the backpanel. It may be plugged in incorrectly at the motherboard. If the printer port is a
separate accessory card then remove it and see if the system comes up.
