• Finally got a real MCA sound card! [SoundPiper 16]

From camtheman155@yahoo.com@21:1/5 to All on Sat Nov 20 09:22:23 2021
Found on ebay, cost $500 which is the max I'd pay for any MCA sound card. Came out of a Model 77 I believe. In pretty pristine condition.

Didn't think I'd ever get a SoundPiper specifically, Ive seen Sound Blaster MCVs on Ebay but -never- SoundPipers or ChipChats. Very excited to try it out in OS/2 3.0 and Windows 3.11 on my 9595/A. ESS still makes audio chipsets to this very day, I've
been impressed with my other cards by them (an ISA ESS 1868F in my Windows 98 machine in particular)

    Very excited.

Ah... so you are the one... We were all watching that auction and saw some shenanigans with it being relisted immediately. How did that go? Did you tell the seller to just send the sound card and keep the system?

Yep, asked if they'd be willing to sell the card on its own, they said yes and that was that. Already have 5 PS/2 systems in any case and I saved big on the shipping.

Tested the card in OS/2 3.0, these sound effects are hilarious. OS/2 still sucks though, off to WFW 3.11 I go =P

Well glad to here it! I think there was some initial general concern that the bidder got screwed by the seller.
