Seventeen years after the Year 2000 bug came and went, the federal
government will finally stop preparing for it.

The Trump administration announced Thursday that it would eliminate
dozens of paperwork requirements for federal agencies, including an
obscure rule that requires them to continue providing updates on their preparedness for a bug that afflicted some computers at the turn of the century. As another example, the Pentagon will be freed from a
requirement that it file a report every time a small business vendor is
paid, a task that consumed some 1,200 man-hours every year.

A standard Full Time Equivalent - one employee - is, I believe, allocated
    1,920 hours per year.

Not sure how many folks work at (or with) the Pentagon... but .625 of one
of them seems to be freed now for something else.

Hey Arnold. Good to see you're still kicking.

This was a ridiculous exercise as Doc has pointed
out. They were ignoring the Y2k requirement and
eliminating the small-vendor report is worth, maybe,
$100,000/year. Is that the best they could do?
The "investigation" cost more than the savings.

Meanwhile a billion-dollar destroyer just got
totaled in a collision with a container ship
on calm seas under a clear night. And six
trillion dollars [sic] has been flushed down
    the crapper in Afghanistan.

    Penny wise, pound foolish.

Beeks! Good to see you're still kicking, too.

It's true money is often wasted, even if our government is commendably
on top of that pesky Y2K problem.

But the USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62) is still floating and will probably be
repaired rather than written off. The USS Cole (DDG-67) is also an
Arleigh Burke destroyer and is still in service after more severe damage.

I'm just glad we're still alive to see it and TEOTWAWKI is playing out in the GOP rather than date arithmetic.

    Best
