• File extension for public keyring?

From Justin@21:1/5 to All on Wed Mar 30 19:05:03 2016
Normally when I export a public key in ascii armored format I use asc,
but what about if I don't specify the armored option? Should it be
    *.key, *.pgp, *.gpg?

Justin - a quick search indicates pgp uses the .key extension for
    binary format.

It's been ages since I've used pgp itself but the .key extension is
    what my feeble brain remembers.

At the time I had no trouble sending my public key attached in an
email. I must admit that now I can't image how that worked because I
can't imagine sending the key in binary format. I don't know what the advantages of a key in binary format would be. (Perhaps you can help
    there.)

Hopefully, someone more informed will chime in.
