    Hi all!

    A few things here.

    1) What is the last fixpack for OS/2 Warp 3 connect and where can I
    get it from?

    Try ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/v3.0warp/

    2) I am having trouble finding decent instructions on how to install a fixpack from hard drive. Does anyone ha a pointer to a set of DECENT instructions as to how to go about accomplishing this task?

There is something like FASTKICK or so... I'm not at my OS/2 system so I
    cannot check...

    Take a look at http://web.archive.org/web/20060926004818/www.warpupdates.mynetcologne.de/english/site_contents.html
It is out of date but has the file names etc to plug into Google.

There used to be a couple of methods but it's been a long time. Perhaps
    poke around Hobbes

The reason I ask is twofold - one, to get my Warp 3 Connect VM up to
date and two, once it is up to date, be able to install the OS/2
additions that come with Oracle Virtualbox so that Warp 3 Connect runs without black screening.

AFAIK FP40, you already got the IBM link.

But you need to apply at least half a dozen other fixpacks too, because
Warp Connect is a bundle of different IBM products. OS/2, MPTS, IBM Peer ...

    2) I am having trouble finding decent instructions on how to install a fixpack from hard drive. Does anyone ha a pointer to a set of DECENT instructions as to how to go about accomplishing this task?

Most of the site where this is explained were gone. I did not find any
compact information in English. And most links on the site I found are dead. The IBM ftp server is the only thing that is still alive. But no
    explanations there.

Hmm, there seem s to be a new site (at least new for me): http://altsan.org/os2/fixpaks/fixgraphics.html
Read this carefully and apply all relevant fixes.

To install the fixpacks extract them into a folder (all parts of a
    fixpack into the same folder).
Then go to the folder where you extracted the CSF disk.
    Open a shell.
    SET CSFCDROMDIR=PathToTheFixpackToApply
    FSERVICE.EXE
If you have a fast disk (SSD) this will work quite fast.

Once you applied all fixpacks you should create a good backup. If you
need another machine, clone your installation rather than to repeat the procedure.
This is the way I work since the early 90's, from 2.1ß to eCS 1.05. I
always cloned my installation or applied upgrades. Never installed from scratch.
The IBM installation procedure always has been ridiculous. But once it
    works it is quite reliable.

You should know that you will not be able to use file shares from IBM
peer on recent WinXX versions, neither the other way around. But OS/2
Warp to Linux Samba server works with some tweaks of the Samba
    configuration.

To get reasonable virtual network performance you should switch the
virtual network adapter to Intel E1000, once you copied the drivers to
your VM. The default adapter AFAIR works out of the box but is quite slow.

Warp 3 is not supported by additions that come with recent versions of Virtualbox. The default OS/2 Warp 3 VM choosen form Virtualbox GUI is
quite slow, better change to BusLogic SCSI for disk controller.

And if you want to install Warp Connect over the network (a real
time-saver IMO) simply use Virtual PC, because NetBIOS from SRVIFS
    doesn't work reliable under VirtualBox.

Fixpak 43 is actually for Warp Server (XR*3005) or Warp Server SMP
(XR*3006). IIRC you have to hack the syslevel to apply fp41+. You also
have to apply the driver fixpak as the drivers were removed starting
    with fp41.
    See http://web.archive.org/web/20060909015435/http://www.warpupdates.mynetcologne.de/english/base_fixpak30.html
which also mentions section 3.0.10 in the readme.1st for how to fix the syslevel files

Older versions of OS/2 VBoxAdditions usually work flawlessly with newer
VBox versions. So an older version could do the job. I do not remember
exactly when they changed the OS/2 addition. (Most of the time they were unchanged.) AFAIR 4.1.something

I never got this virtual controller to boot with the OS/2 driver (in
contrast to the physical ones). Is there a trick?
