• A new change in login for my RSTS/E v10.1 system

From Ronald Hudson@21:1/5 to All on Sat Sep 2 01:27:50 2023
    Hi Everyone,
Thanks for being so helpful to a noob like me, so far.

Login seems to be doing something it was not doing before -

When I first connect to the simh system it wants 2 to 3 Enter keys then it displays the "user:" prompt. Before then I can't type "hello" the only thing it takes is the two enter keys.

It's a small thing but I don't know what change I made that causes this.

Does anyone know what this is?

Not entirely sure, but usually if you have automatic speed detection on
the line, it will be searching for a CR before doing anything else.

Could using SET TERMINAL/PERM cause this?
Isn't there a file that sets all the serial ports up at boot time?

Depends on what settings you actually are setting as permanent. The
/PERM in itself don't mean anything in this context. It's just setting
that some things are saved and applied to the terminals by default when booting.

Isn't there a file that sets all the serial ports up at boot time?

I would expect that this is somehow managed by the /PERM switch. I don't
know exactly how RSTS/E implements this.
