My solution is to purchase from startech.com a PCIe expansion card hosting a 4 port USB 2 controller. Plug your USB mouse and keyboard into the new ports and your OS will work.
When you want to change the mobo BIOS settings you must plug the aforementioned
mouse and keyboard into the mobo USB ports.
Another useful product from startech is their adapter for connecting two PS/2 plugs to one USB socket.
