It's been MONTHS since there's been any postings in comp.os.os2.xxxxxx

Did I not get the announcment that everyone moved off to some web-based
    forum or the somesuch?

Well most of the OS/2 instances are likely no longer in use.

Did I not get the announcment that everyone moved off to some web-based
    forum or the somesuch?

I am in doubt whether there are many web forums for OS/2.

There's https://www.os2world.com/forum and also for German speakers, https://www.os2.org/
    They're both somewhat active

But, why the sudden silence in comp.os.os2....?
It was as if someone threw a switch.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. I don't know what switch you
are referring to. Newsgroup traffic in general has been trending
downward on the last 5 years or so. This simply reflects changes in
how the vast majority of folks use the internet. This newsgroup has
been what I would call very low traffic for at least the last couple
    of years.

A week or so ago, I logged onto groups, and nada, zip, zero!! I went over to OS2World, and it has dried right up.

20 years ago, usenet had thousands of groups with enthralling and intelligent discussions. I am now challenged to find any intelligence on the entire WWW, save el Reg at times. Humanity is doomed.

OS2World is still active, some days not as much as others and there are
active newsgroups that I'm subscribed to, even a new one, alt.comp.software.seamonkey (firefox and thunderbird too) as Mozilla has dropped their news server support.
Things like the Apple II related groups still have activity as well.
comp.misc if you want discussion more like el Reg
