I think I have PFE, and I will look for Notepad Pro now. :)

    I didn't find Notepad Pro. :( I found EditPad for Win98, though.

    On first google page:
    https://notepadpro.en.downloadastro.com/

    win98,xp, etc.etc.etc.

Seems to be Metapad under the hood (Help About)

"Notespad" might be another option. http://can2can.biz/NotesPad/notespad_16.html

Yes, but I'm looking for a *Win3.1* text editor.

Grant Taylor: I thank you for the correction. :)

I am familiar with EDIT and Wordpad, but EDIT is DOS-based and doesn't
handle tabs properly, and Wordpad is for Win32/64. Also, Notepad for
    Win16 doesn't handle large files (i.e. >=64k). :(

Use Write. Load any text file without any conversion. If saving as a
    new
file, always save it as text file (i.e. *.txt).

If you run "write" in later windows it runs wordpad.

Beware that Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 have a virtual memory paging bug
on CPUs above a 486. It was fixed in Windows 98. Opening and closing
many DOS windows may reveal the bug. The only work around is to disable
the swap file and run without virtual memory. Not a bad idea when you
    have plenty of memory.

The KB article may be gone from the Microsoft web site, I can't find it
    now.
