• D+7AIO & Dazzler PLAY.EXE

From ShadowTron Blog@21:1/5 to All on Tue Feb 7 18:18:50 2023
I recently came across a program named PLAY.EXE, with it are a number of .MUS files which hints this may be a music player for CP/M. In looking at the disassembly of PLAY.EXE I can see that it outputs to ports 0x19 and 0x1B which happen to be the A1 and
A3 analog outputs on the D+7AIO card (the sounds outputs).

When running the program it will throw an error if VOICES.MUS isn't found which seems to hint there are voices. With it found the user can load one of the other .MUS files and will be asked how many time to play it.

Does anyone know what this program is? Who wrote it? Is there source anyplace? What is the format of the .MUS files?

A zip with the files can be downloaded here: http://www.s100computers.com/My%20System%20Pages/Dazzler%20II%20Board/Dazzler%20Software%20Collection.zip

Hi Neil, are you aware of Richard Russell's 'music' program for CP/M? this dates from around '84 ish and you'll recall that Richard is Mr BBC Basic:
Here it is running on my Z80 Playground: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI4b-tdONdk
    and on my RC2040 CP/M card: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuaUUFC2Goo
    The files are here: http://cpmarchives.classiccmp.org/ftp.php?b=cpm%2FSoftware%2FCPM_DOSGG%2FCPM09%2F950
I spent several weeks converting "Stairway to Heaven" which was almost finished but long lost after 40 years :(
    Cheers
    Phil
