It is funny to see , that You make the same observations which I have
made about 2005, when I first obtained sources from Steve under NDA. :)

My approach was to backport as much changes/patches from 4.1.14 and
4.2.12(?) as possible into my stable 4.2.10/4.2.12(?) source tree , and surprisingly it worked. Simply check file with changes/fixes , some kind
of changelog, but I do not remember the exact name.
