"Transport Controls"?

Just a point of curiosity, resulting from thinking about JBW's
desires for a 'Pi MIDI', and how one might control it.
My Axiom-49 has a set of 'Transport Control' buttons, with the
usual 'Play', 'Stop' etc symbols on them. The exact MIDI they
send is configurable, and the default also seems to depend on
the Patch selected, but the basic default is to send (unassigned)
CCs 113..117. (Other patches may send CCs 20..24, or even actual
MIDI Machine Control SysExs.)
From the manual, I gather the 113..117 CCs match ProTools. My
question is, are these more general than that? And who uses the
20..24 set? Are there any (software) DAWs that actually use
the MMC codes?
