So, my 85-yo friend's phone is just about completely set up, but i
noticed how hard it is to push the on/off button with the case on, but
not with the case off.
But she has dropped it so I don't think it's good to be without a case.
She too acknowledged that it's hard to turn on etc. So I want to buy a
new one.
In shopping for a new case, are there buzz words that mean the buttons
are still easy to push? This whole phone is not very old so I don't
think the problem is that the case is old and stiff. All the cases make
it harder to push IME, but do any have a way of saying they don't make
it much harder? Keywords?

I don't have to ever push the on/off (sleep) button on my phone.

Of course Carlos (duh?). That's why I suggested (in the part you snipped)
that micky check the settings to see if his phone might have a similar feature as mine.
And micky, another thing you you might try if you get a cheap case. Using a
pair of scissors you could cut the around the power button to make more finger room without hurting the drop protection. I've done that with some
of mine to make more room around the headphone hole and USB-C jack...

That's a very good idea, and I don't have to buy a cheap one. I can use
the one she has.

In my case, I certainly can set up as you say, but that doesn't help me
at all:
the fingerprint sensor is in the power up button. And the power
up button doubles as the home button. Two functions that I actually need

I'm simply saying that you are generalizing too much.
You can not make the broad generalization that the power up button is useless
and that a case that impedes using it is just fine.

So how does this help micky?
I found it interesting. If only that it points out things to look for
or avoid in the next phone.
Actually, I can tap or press the power button in my phone, attached to
the case, just fine, because the case has been designed properly.
Your problem is simply that you have to test the case on the shop.
Find
out the brand of the case that doesn't work properly, and don't buy that
one again.
