• Mag-safe and wireless charging????

From micky@21:1/5 to All on Sun Dec 17 18:37:48 2023
I've been looking at dash mounnts, air vent mounts, and several mention mag-safe and a couple come with a ring that they say makes it work with mag-safe.

I don't have wireless chargeing but I expect the next phone will have
    it.

Mag-safe has something to do with wireless charging and I guess??? that
with these rings you can continue to wireelessly charge your phone while
it's on the AC vent mount, is that right?

Is mag-safe the same as wireless charging? Or it's some sequel to it?
That makes it safer? Safe from dangerous magnets?

I don't see how the 3" flat metal ring can do much.

When using magnets for mounting or phone holders, forget about using the compass feature (magnometer) in your phone.

Magsafe isn't for mounting your phone. The magnets in the wireless
charger align with magnets inside the phone. This is to ensure proper alignment. Charging efficiency for wireless chargers is already low,
and any misalignment between charging coils exponentially reduces
efficiency (which also results in heat which lithium batteries don't
like). Some wireless chargers had an indicator to show if you properly
aligned the phone on them. Magnetic alignment helps take out the human
error or misalignment. Magsafe wireless chargers are only intended for
use with devices that have the alignment magnets inside; else, you're
trying to align the coil in the charger to the coil inside the phone.
So, you have to match Magsafe charger to Magsafe-compatible phone
    models.

Do you own a Magsafe-compatible phone model? Remember you are asking in
an Android newsgroup, not in an iOS newsgroup. Magsafe is Apple. For
your next phone, are you thinking of dropping Android and going to
Apple? If so, we won't see you here afterward.

MagSafe is a form of wireless charging, trademarked by Apple.
