• "Conversation History"

From John Hill@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jan 18 10:13:34 2022
I've two accounts in Mail.app. Both have a mailbox titled Conversation
History. I didn't create them, and there has never been anything in either.

What are they for? Presumably they are "smart" in some way.

I have no such mailboxes. Are these, perhaps, mailboxes in your
    accounts?

What are they for? Presumably they are "smart" in some way.

the various "smart" mailboxes can be accessed via the "Edit" menu (top
right of the mailbox sidebar) and are:

VIP, All Inboxes, Unread, To or CC, Flagged, Attachments, Today, Thread Notifications, Muted Threads, All Drafts, All Sent, All trash, and All Archives.

What sorts of accounts are these? Maybe it's a gmail thing? (I have a
gmail account, but not on my iPad/iPhone).

No, never. But both are Microsoft accounts, one is Outlook and the other is Exchange.

I'd still like to know what they are supposed to be for, and if I can

Messages you receive from others while you are away in Skype for
Business appear there, which may or may not be useful to you. At least
that's how it has worked for me in the past while working for

I tend to agree with you. But I had little choice in the matter; an organisation that has provided me with a drop box address for around 20 years decided to convert it to an Exchange account.

Over the years I had used it as a login address for a huge (for me) number of web sites, on the grounds that if a "real" account to which it was directed failed, I could change the destination. This did in fact happen some years
ago, and saved me a lot of hassle.

I don't have concern that Microsoft is suddenly going to go belly up, and even it it did the organisation would sort it for us all. And the prospect of going through a large number of logins and changing all the details (and in some cases having to open new accounts) is too much.

Since I am many years retired, I don't have any devices but my own. So I'm stuck.

As an irrelevancy, would *deleting* those folders kill anything
valuable? I know it would save very little HD space but it might make
the screen real estate a little less crowded.

I assume MS would revive them automagically if their softwares ever
    need them for anything?
