• Status of Listmoms list for Eudora

From Ignataz@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jun 4 09:47:11 2022
    Is http://www.listmoms.net/eudora-win/ still active?

I tried subscribing and got a bounce

The Eudora - win list used to be active and useful, although I believe the archive of responses never become available (so the homepage still says, which has not been updated since 2009).

Yes, it's still (and very) active. And a great resource.

At a guess, I'd say your problems with subscribing probably arose from
either mistyping or failing to follow directions. Then again, anything
can have a short term problem. Try again. Read all the directions
BEFORE clicking a link to join. Post details of any messages/bounces
you get if it doesn't work.

An archive would be nice. The same thing is covered multiple times
weekly, sometimes incorrectly or confusingly. It would be nice to be
able to point to "See message #12345" for a tried and true response to
the same old thing... like problems accessing GMail that are problems
    caused by GMail, not Eudora.

I'm a subscriber and I haven't had anything from it for weeks.
I did send a test message to it a couple of days ago, and it didn't bounce back, but there was no response.
I've now e-mailed Katrina Knight, one of the Listmoms, so hopefully she'll let me know what's happened.

Listmoms has a presence on Facebook www.facebook.com/Listmoms but it's been quiet there too, and no response to a message I sent. It seems very old school - using old personal computers in a garage as local servers.

Unfair of me to complain about their very useful (and free!) service, but they are -- or maybe were -- a cranky bunch, and unless they make their archive available on archive.org or somewhere it's gone.

That is the correct sending address, I'm now getting messages from it again. The list server was moved to a new physical location some weeks ago, and that resulted in it getting a new IP address.
As soon as that happened, I started getting the messages again, which I think proves that the original IP address was on a blacklist.
Assuming the messages aren't just being caught in your provider's spam filter, which presumably you've checked, it could be a blacklist problem again, but I hope not!

Well, I have not gotten any postings for months but life has gotten in the way of me following up to find out why.

I had a SSD die and have been relying on my phone for my email communications. The crazy part is that getting into my provider"s website (to check my spam folders} directly has been brutal torture!

Some of you have mentioned similar pain with Worldnet.att.net, or att.net, which was moved to Yahoo.com, which was then moved to Currently.com, which has turned it all into a stinking pile of stupid.

I am now blocked every time I try to sign in with "too many failed attempts" window, no matter how many hours/days go by, waiting for a reset...

At various times in the past, it was invariably, a problem with one of these three sites...depending on which was in charge at the time...

Since I am not getting any posting from eudora...@hades.listmoms.net either in my Inbox or Spam, I must not be on the "mailing list"...or, "listmoms" has taken a break, voluntary or not...

The problem may not be with Eudora. I use Eudora every day with 2
Gmail accounts and 2 Comcast email accounts. I do not use it with
    Yahoo email by the way.

I have a friend that has Bellsouth.net as her email and it has been a
battle getting it to work on her computer. It works just fine as long
as you uses their App on her tablet or phone. I can sometimes get
Bluemail program to work on her computer when the web page Yahoo.com
    will not load.

I found on her computer sometimes it would take several minutes for
Yahoo.com to load. You could tell that all the "Ads" on the main
screen would not load. At the bottom left of the screen I would see
strange messages about TSL or something like that being able to reach
    a web site.

I was able to capture this error message once when trying to load mail.Yahoo.com. I was never able to figure it how from the web sites
that I found with suggestions. Mail.yahoo.com problems comes and goes
day by day. Some days it will load just fine other days it can take
several minutes to load. On those days, Bluemail goes and get the
    email just fine.

Sometimes if I used Opera it would load when it would not load in
Firefox. On 3 other Windows 10 and 1 Win 7 computers it would load
just connecting to the same hardware in the house. All computers were
WIRED not wireless by the way.

At one point I had used an Ad Blocker just for Yahoo mail and Firefox.
I don't know if that contributed to the problem or not. I tried to
remove the Ad Blocker but that did not help. I have tried "Resetting
    Firefox".

For some strange reason I could not get the reset password to work
using Firefox on either her computer or my computer. Once I used
Chrome I could reset the password. My wife uses plain Yahoo.com email
and it works fine on her phone and table but recently on her Windows
10 computer Yahoo.com does not want to load when you first get to the
    web page.

I ran into lots of issues getting her Bellsouth.net email to work. I
worked over 3 days trying to get help from ATT which is who she had
her cell service with. They never got it to work right.

I was finally able to get it to work. I found that for some reason her
version of Firefox and also Firefox on my computer could not reset her password, BUT, if I use Chrome as the browser it worked OK.

Just thought this might be useful in case you run into any problems
    down the road.

As you know ATT uses Yahoo email for their email. They have changed
their relationship with Yahoo. Also Yahoo has changed how they handle
Passwords with 3rd party programs. Other companies are doing the same
thing, requiring a "special" password if you want to use something
    like Thunderbird, Blue Mail, etc.

If you do a Google Search for: yahoo mail login not working
you will see all the hits on this issue so it sounds like it is a
    common problem.

One solution for my friend was to switch her to Gmail as a backup.
Since the ATT Apps works fine on her phone, I have her forward any
emails she really want to print or read on her computer to just
forward the ATT email to her Gmail account.

Just some ideas to consider. I never found what I consider to be a
real solution on my wife's computer and it is even worse trying to
deal with my friend's Bellsouth.net email account. I sent several days
trying to get help from ATT support. One agent even suggested I take
her phone to the ATT store for help. They just laughed at me when I
told the Rep in the store that their phone support told me to go the
ATT store. By the way, my friend is on ATT for her cell service and
used to have UVersa which was also terrible.

I found that for some reason her >version of Firefox and also Firefox on my computer could not reset her >password, BUT, if I use Chrome as the browser it worked OK.

Just thought this might be useful in case you run into any problems
    down the road.

As you know ATT uses Yahoo email for their email. They have changed
their relationship with Yahoo. Also Yahoo has changed how they handle >Passwords with 3rd party programs.

I just read your post quickly so I may have missed something. But,
just about all of the recent email problems I've seen on the "list"
have been solved by one (or both) of two things: installing the latest
Hermes update from Pete Maclean which enables Eudora to use up-to-date
SSL protocols, and/or getting an app specific password for the server
in question. I'd try the Hermes update first.

    Here are directions for Hermes:

You can download the Hermes installer here <https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/files/hermsetup.exe/download>. Install it over top of your current Eudora installation. When it asks
about whether you're doing a new installation or changing an existing
one, tell it new. If it says it can't install the runtime files
because a newer version is already installed, just continue on. If
that's already installed, it doesn't need to be installed again.

Here is info about app specific password:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12409/microsoft-account-app-passwords-and-two-step-verification

    Hope this helps!
