just guessing: dash dash space newline

The row will be deleted and everything below it, as that is the marker
for the beginning of the signature and it's bad etiquette to
reply/forward with someone else signature as part of the message.

Nowadays with all the html based mail, people don't know how to mail, so
they tend to either top or bottom post (the later one is bad if they
have replied to a poster that uses signatures in the right way).

Could it be that you have a multipart message that only contains a HTML
part (and possibly attachments). The message will be in the attachment and
you will not be able to edit it.

This message is in MIME format. The first part should be readable text,
while the remaining parts are likely unreadable without MIME-aware tools.

    After pressing "v" I get:

    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
    PINE 2.24 ATTACHMENT INDEX [R] <Scire> INBOX Msg 1 of 58
    +

    1.1.2 ~89 lines Text/HTML
    1.2 17 KB Image/PNG

    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

And the message in Alpine begins with no signature:

    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

It does not include the message, but I see the attachment.

At best I bounce you the message. To the Email-Address you use here
    in USENET?

    Thanks

Actually on many messages it changes really a lot, and at times even
misses our vast swathes of the message.

If not, do you see a Multipart attachment in the headers?

I have had situations (eg when sending various spam to our security
people) where the attachment for some reason never got attached or sent.
I have never looked into the problem--I had already wasted enough of my
time sending it to them-- to see what was causing it. It could even have
been something I did (but I do not think so). It is really sporadic.
(Yes, I used F for forward, pine asked if I wanted to include the
message in an attachment or in the text, and I chose attachment).

Yes, I'd love to see the message if you can share it.
